The Mana Pool
Join Brian, Mike, Dirk and Chewie as they discuss all things Magic: The Gathering. Since there are plenty of tournament and strategy podcasts out there, we've decided to focus on the fun of the game in all its many forms, from Prereleases to multiplayer free-for-alls to whatever else we can come up with. Give us a listen!

Welcome to the second episode of The Mana Pool!  I'm your host, Chewie, and I'm joined by another group of dorks this time.

Brian - occasional writer for Cardshark, law student, and not a pro.
Squanto - token n00b, token Indian (that's American Indian), and all around, uh, guy.

In this episode, we discuss a few cards from Lorwyn that aren't tournament killers, aren't big cash cards, and aren't getting the respect or attention they deserve.  Brian has come up with five cards to check out, keep an eye on, and get your creative synapses firing.

Then we tackle an idea that Squanto had while work was slow one day.  Clash is a cool new mechanic, but is it feasible (or even possible) to build a deck that uses clash specifically to win?  I came up with a red and white deck skeleton that does just that.  Here's that list for your perusal.

Creatures (20)
4 Flamekin Harbinger
4 Springjack Knight
4 Sentry Oak
2 Glarewielder
4 Squall Drifter
2 Incandescent Soulstoke

Spells (20)
4 Lash Out
4 Pollen Lullaby
4 Entangling Trap
3 Rebellion of the Flamekin
3 Judge Unworthy
2 Riddle of Lightning

This deck is completely untested and is only theoretical, but we're going to put it together, test it out, and get back to you in an upcoming episode about how it performs.

A big thanks to my podcasting mentor James.  He's teaching me all the ins and outs of podcasting.  If something's not right on my show, it's because I didn't get his help with it.  If you like comics at all, check out his podcast at  He's in the middle of his 50th episode extravaganza at the moment, so jump right in and have fun.

Welcome to the first episode of The Mana Pool!  I'm your host, Chewie, and I'm joined by a big group of dorks that consist of:

Brian - occasional writer for Cardshark
Dirk - greenest Magic player alive
Squanto - token n00b

In this episode, we roll over to Cardshark and explain how it works and why it's great.  Then we hit many of the new Standard decks that have cropped up since Lorwyn became legal, including the decks that made Top 8 at Grand Prix Krakow.  Join us as we pick apart the new decks and pick on each other.

The Mana Pool is open!  I just need to pour in some chlorine, get the pump up and running again, and erase all the graffiti those lousy planeswalkers left all over the place.  Honestly now, who really needs to know "Vess Pwnz" or "LOL @ Teferi" or "For a good time, 'walk to Ravnica"?  As soon as I get all this mess cleaned up, then we'll be open for business.

The Mana Pool, brought to you by Cardshark and hosted by your favorite lovable Content Editor, Chewie, is a new Magic: The Gathering podcast.  The first episode will be up later this week.  Until then, check out this promo for a taste of things to come.
